# Royal Mail from ShipStation

Royal Mail from ShipStation offers domestic and international shipping services for UK-based ShipStation V2 API accounts shipping from the UK.

This guide provides developers with the details needed to build Royal Mail from ShipStation shipping capabilities into your ShipStation V2 API workflows.

## Requirements

`carrier_code`: `rm_cnd_walleted`

* A ShipStation V2 API account based in the UK.
* ShipStation Carriers must be activated for the account and have a positive account balance to create labels. See our [Using ShipStation Carriers page](/apis/shipengine/docs/carriers/setup) for details about activating it in your account.
* All shipments must originate from an address in the UK.
* All shipments must include both the weight and either the dimensions or the package type.

### Royal Mail Volume Considerations
The Royal Mail from ShipStation integration is intended for those customers who ship less than 20 parcels per week, therefore parcels will be scanned individually upon collection.

### Return Services

Royal Mail from ShipStation does not support returns.

### Adding Shipment Insurance

Adding shipment insurance is not supported for this carrier. Royal Mail does not provide any default loss/damage coverage.

### Multi-Package Labels

Royal Mail from ShipStation does not currently support [multi-package shipments](/apis/shipengine/docs/shipping/multi-package).

### Voiding Labels

Royal Mail from ShipStation supports [voiding labels](/apis/shipengine/docs/labels/voiding) with ShipStation V2 API.

### Customs Declarations

While Royal Mail via ShipStation supports electronic customs data, you must still print and attach a physical **CN22** or **CN23 form** to the outside of your parcel. Providing electronic data does not remove the requirement for physical documentation. Failing to include it may result in your shipment being returned.

**Automatic Customs Form Selection (CN22 vs. CN23)**: Please note that the API returns a CN23 for international shipments when the declared shipment value exceeds GBP 270. For shipments with a value up to and including GBP 270, a CN22 is returned.

> **NOTE: Action Required: New Zealand Border Levy Changes**
Effective April 1, 2026, a new NZD $2.21 (+ GST) levy applies to low-value air freight consignments entering New Zealand. This levy is charged **per consignment**, not per item.

## Manifests

Royal Mail from ShipStation shipments do not require [manifesting](/apis/shipengine/docs/shipping/manifests).

## Scheduling Pickups

When a shipment uses either of Royal Mail's Courier Collection services, a pickup request is automatically sent to Royal Mail when the label is created.

* Pickup Date will be set for the first available slot within the next 5 business days. Same-day collections are not available.
* Sunday Pickups are not supported. You will need to change the order date to the next day to create a label.
* Royal Mail shows an estimated time slot. They do not guarantee pickup times.
* If a label is voided, the pickup will be cancelled at the same time.


## Service Points (PUDO)

Shipping to [service points](/apis/shipengine/docs/pick-up-drop-off/pudo-intro) is not supported.
